Drew’s slam voted postseason play of the year
J.D. Drew’s first inning grand slam in game 6 of the ALCS was voted This Year in Baseball’s top play of the 2007 postseason.
The clutch shot came off Fausto Carmona with two outs and a 3-1 count, and for one of the few times in his first season in Boston, he transformed the Fenway BOOOOs to DREEEWWWs.
Even though the game ended up as a 12-2 blowout, Drew’s blast is one of the few memorable moments in a postseason that was largely drama-free (six of eight series ended in sweeps). Can you even make a list of ten memorable 2007 postseason moments without padding it with the hugely annoying Frank TV and Dane Cook promos? No? Me neither.
Regardless, Drew will undoubtedly receive a warmer reception in 2008 than he did last season, and hopefully that support will help make him more comfortable at the plate.
And who knows—a few more clutch shots like that, and Drew may have his very own bleacher creatures.
